Wayland is a historic town located in Middlesex County, about 20 miles west of Boston. Wayland was founded in 1639 and was named after the Rev. John Eliot's hometown in England. In its early days, Wayland was a rural farming community, and the town is still surrounded by open fields and woodlands today.
In the mid-20th century, Wayland began to transform into a modern residential community. New neighborhoods and businesses sprang up, and several landmarks from the city's past remain today as reminders of our history. For example, Downtown Wayland is one of New England's oldest commercial districts and still features many buildings from the 19th century.
Today, Wayland continues to be a thriving residential community that celebrates its long history. With its beautiful open spaces, historic landmarks, and vibrant downtown area, Wayland makes a great home for everyone, from individuals and families to young professionals and retirees.
